South West Water's Corporate Responsibility Report 2011
Chris Loughlin, Chief Executive of South West Water Limited, writes in the overview to the company’s Corporate Responsibility Report 2011: “In our 25 year Strategic Direction Statement, which sets out our long-term goals and strategies, economic, environmental and social sustainability are integrated into how we conduct our business today.
"This report analyses our corporate responsibility performance and aspirations under the sections of Economic, Environmental and Social Sustainability.
"We and the Pennon Group have developed six key Corporate Responsibility KPIs which we believe to be key to meeting the interest of our customers, stakeholders, investors and the environment and this report sets out our performance against these KPIs:
• capital investment
• greenhouse gas emissions
• renewable energy generation
• recycling volumes
• health & safety (RIDDOR)
• community support & donations.
"In this report we also describe the corporate responsibility targets we have set ourselves for 2011/12 and explain how we have done against the targets we set for 2010/11."
BT's 2011 sustainability report, Better Future, highlights its achievements in the last year, during which BT added 'being a responsible and sustainable business leader' to its strategic priorities.
Highlights include:
• reducing the carbon intensity of its global business by 59% compared to its 1997 baseline
• reducing energy use by 2.5% in the last year
• switching to a specialist recycling company, increasing recycling rates by 38% and sent 69% less waste to landfill
• launching new energy efficient products such as its Home Hub
• launching a new climate change procurement standard – encouraging low carbon innovation in its supply chain
• investing £27.6m in projects that directly benefit society including over 49,000 days of volunteering activity worldwide
• launching MyDonate (a free online fundraising service to help UK-registered charities raise money more efficiently)
